WHO IS ROSIE?
Rosie was 6 years, when she saw the film ‘Amarcord’ directed by Fellini . She was impressed by the settings and already then started her fascination for cinema. When she was 16, after seeing ‘drowning by numbers’ directed by Peter Greenaway she was convinced that she wanted to be part of the world of cinema.
After studying woodworking and furniture design, production designer Wilbert van Dorp asked her to work on his team as constructor for film, and so she did for several years.
She was fascinated by all directions within the film but especially in the artdepartment. she started painting & designing lessons on the Rietveld Art Academy.
When Parisian scenic painter E.Pallardy asked her to be part of his team, she said yes. On the production ‘Secret Passage‘ she got the opportunity to work with very experienced italian painters (Cinecitta studio’s) and learned about what you can make with paint and learned all skills as scenic painter. she lived partly in France.
She stayed on the painters team for several years, did a lot of international movies, and became a co head painter on the movie ‘Girl with a pearl earring’
In 2003 She moved back to holland, founded her own studio and started as an artdirector & production designer. She worked on different movies national and international and got the opportunity to work with Peter Greenaway. She created her own artdepartment team, and developed her skills as a head of the artdepartment. She believes her craftsmanship helps to be a good leader.
For the movie ‘Silent City’ she rebuilt Japan in Luxembourg and was nominated for a golden calf ‘best production design’ 2012
Rosie also teaches as production designer expert on different schools.
Except on films, Rosie works on photo styling, exhibition and interior design, as well as making her own film projects. In 2015 she made her debut as a filmmaker with the documentary Portrait of a Garden. A film she directed, filmed, edited and produced almost entirely by herself and which was selected for IFFR 2015 & the 66th Berlinaler Film Festival.
